About me
Jorge Navarro began his teaching career in 1989 and was twice named his school’s Teacher of the Year. He holds an M.Ed. in English Education and was a Doctoral Candidate (Ph.D.) at the University of Florida. His research interests include bilingual education, immigration and assessment. Jorge has taught in Florida, New York City, and California. He ended his 15-year career in public education after serving as a district ELL Coordinator at the San Francisco Unified School District.
Before coming to Curriculum Associates, Jorge spent 8 years directing business development for NWEA throughout the Middle and Near East. Jorge is now the Vice President of Multilingual Learner Advocacy at Curriculum Associates, working with school districts, and key professional associations internationally and across the United States.
He also happens to be an accomplished musician, bilingual podcaster, and writer. Jorge’s band, The Cuban Cowboys, play a unique combination of traditional Cuban music and indie rock. Jorge and the band have been featured on NPR’s ‘Morning Edition’, in the Wall Street Journal, and National Geographic among many other media outlets. His second book, Go Your Home: An Autobiography of Bilingual Education, will be published in 2024.
